Accreditation

Well, it turns out our very first News update is an absolute ripper!

We were informed on September 19, that we have successfully fulfilled all the criteria necessary to gain Voluntary Accreditation.  This is a significant achievement… really quite pleased with ourselves actually…

As of September 19, there are only around 30 practices in Queensland which have successfully undergone the somewhat daunting process of gaining accreditation.  Roz, our practice Manager, has been working diligently on this process since October last year.

At this point in time, private dental surgeries in Queensland are not required to undergo accreditation (unlike GP’s, Public Dental Centres and Private Dental Surgeries in other states). In Queensland, it is strictly a volunteer undertaking.  Only practices which have a true Patient Based Practice Philosophy would choose to put themselves through this process.

The Australian Dental Association Inc in conjunction with QIP (Quality in Practice) have developed an Accreditation Scheme for Dental.  This scheme helps Practices ensure they are undertaking high quality dental treatment, with an evidence based approach, focusing on the six National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards applicable to dentistry.  All this while been constantly mindful of continuous quality improvement.

The six NSQHS Standards applicable to dentistry are…

  1. Governance for Safety and Quality in Health Service Organisations
  2. Partnering with Consumers
  3. Preventing and Controlling Healthcare Associated Infections
  4. Medication Safety
  5. Patient Identification and Procedure Matching
  6. Clinical Handover

Simply put, this means we have made the decision to put it upon ourselves to ensure we instigate Best Practice Principles within our practice.
